I went in to my local dealership to have my right CV joint replaced as it was clicking very loudly under hard acceleration, but only when the wheel was turned. This symptom is a no brainer that the CV joint is worn out. So now the service advisor wants to hear what sound it makes, probably because he had no clue, even though i told him what i needed fixed. So i drove him around the building to demonstrate the problem. He says they now have to “diagnose” the problem for around $80, but i wouldn’t have to pay it if had the work done there, this is typical of most shops so i agree. They have my car in the back on the hoist for over an hour before the service advisor comes back and tells me the CV joint is fine and that the sound is coming from the transmission and he hands me an estimate.. $3,500 for a rebuilt transmission or $6,500 for a brand new one. At this point i should have walked out, but i was going on a trip in a couple days and needed it fixed asap. I told him to just replace the CV joint like i asked, he said OK, but it won’t fix the transmission problem. Three hour’s and $400 later they tell me the CV joint is “replaced” but they took it for a test drive and the problem is still the same, and they again try to sell me on the new transmission. I told him i’d think about it and i went home thinking they just ripped me off for $400. Two days after i got back from my trip the “replaced” CV joint breaks apart and strands me on the side of the highway. So i towed it to the closest shop who replaced it for $300. I recently sold the car with 240,000 miles on the original transmission and never had a problem with it. Bottom line, they screwed me out of $400 for work they never did, in the hopes of screwing me over for an additional $6,500 for a new transmission. I will never go back there or to any other shop owned by the same people. Just a bunch of crooks.
