You might be wondering…Why bother with the ‘splitting of hairs’ between the differences of “Original Founder”, “Founder” and co-Founder”? Well, in the case of Tesla Motors and Mr. Musk, its a reasonable detail to drill-down into. It’s historically important to understand the exact nature of this ‘small singular’ fact because the intense media hype surrounding the company. So understanding how this important legacy data-point is wrongly represented and globally miss-quoted by so many people – with so much egregiously embellished false inaccuracies…by so many fans of Mr. Musk is kind-of meaningful. Also, so many media agencies erroneously attribute him the status of “Founder” with blind careless faith. – that it really does cry out for the brutal truth to be stated – once & for all.
Theory says that the BFR would put SpaceX in a commanding position to corner the global launch services market and simultaneously use excess capacity of BFR launches to further their own projects in space. Predicting the future is never an exact science, but I wouldn’t consider it impossible for a one-two punch like that to ultimately make SpaceX one of the highest valued companies in the world.
What I expect (and hope) will happen is that SpaceX will be successful in creating the BFR and will immediately slash launch prices in half (i.e. the first chart). This will (hopefully) open up a new class of customers which will allow them to cut prices again. This in turn would (hopefully) open up a new class of customers allowing them to drop prices again. The (expected) extremely low operating costs of BFR would allow numerous cycles of this style of market stimulus. Eventually the prices would drop to (or below) the values in the second chart while still allowing SpaceX to make the profits it needs to prosper.
